Schizophrenia is a psychiatric disorder that makes it difficult to distinguish what is real or imaginary and usually appears between late adolescence and early adulthood.
She still has no cure, but she has treatment. Psychiatric help and medication indicated by professionals are essential to live well, even with the disorder.
But what if something else can be done?
The first step to help with recovery is to stop stigma and prejudice, as they are the main reasons for social isolation and not seeking adequate treatment. Research shows that in underdeveloped countries like Zambia, or in tribal cultures, the recovery of people with schizophrenia is approximately 50%, while in developed countries it is around 30%, even with psychiatric and drug industry support. One of the main reasons is the greater acceptance and love dedicated to people with the diagnosis.
What if the cure is love?
Even if it isn't, at least life will be much better. Promoting society's acceptance, understanding and respect for schizophrenia depends on each one of us.
